My Name Is John Merrick
Mr. Treeves, I leave this letter to admit something to you. I know the state I am in provokes anguish and confusion to the many who have unintendedly met me. I do not know what the motive of your actions have been. You have shown interest to my existence, but I wish not to inquire any further. My life has not permitted to truly let me live. The harm I believed I caused paralyzed me so severely I was under the impression I should simply not live.
