RE: Elephant Man
It was not until the movie was explained to me where I understood what the meaning of the movie was. Frankly, I was still not able to grasp what the purpose of the movie was after its explanation. I had the impression that a troublesome individual, like John Merrick could have a true friend. I believed the Elephant Man to be a movie solely about friendship between distinguished characters. To me, the appearance of this man showed the true appearance of an ordinary individual on the interior. It was explained to us that this movie was something more complex than what was shown; it was a story about rape, about destruction of the earth, and about an interpretation of the widely known story of a man who so mysteriously lived on this planet, Jesus Christ. The theory that this "elephant man" was the outcome of "rape" by machines on the Earth seemed ridiculous at first, but it was what the movie did offer.
